MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A man was booked into the Madison County Jail on Saturday for pretending to be an officer and defrauding over $7,000 through a telephone scam in 2021, the sheriff’s office said.
On September 11, 2021, deputies responded to a report of a phone scam in which the victim said they had been tricked into paying $7,500 by someone posing as law enforcement.

The suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Christopher Andrews, used a “spoofed” line that matched MSCO’s main line and claimed the victim had a failure-to-appear warrant for a federal case.
MCSO said that the suspect told the victim to make several payments via Apple Pay and Green Dot money cards to avoid being arrested.
Through the course of an investigation, officials were able to identify Andrews as the suspect. He was located earlier this month in Escambia County, Florida.
Andrews was arrested and charged with impersonating a peace officer and theft by deception. He is at the Madison County Jail with a collective bond of $30,000.
