HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WHLT) – Hattiesburg police are warning the public about a scam caller who is impersonating a Hattiesburg police officer.
Individuals have reported receiving calls from 601-895-9534 by someone identifying themselves as “Sergeant James Taylor” with the Hattiesburg Police Department. During the call, police said the individual claims that the recipient has been summoned to court, failed to appear and must pay a fine immediately to avoid a warrant being issued for their arrest.

This is a scam. Hattiesburg police said they will never call individuals to request payment of fines, fees or warrants over the phone.
